Goal: promote the understanding and implementation of accessibility of the sustainable built, social and virtual environments
Samarthyam disseminates and implements ‘Accessibility Awareness and Inclusion Strategies’ through a novel model, which primarily focuses on promoting an enabling environment. We undertake an action oriented approach to mainstream persons with disabilities and to live quality life with dignity.
Samarthyam has authored the first National Accessibility Standards (Harmonised Guidelines 2016), which are referred to in space standards guidelines, codes and architectural manuals to make ‘Accessible & Empowered India’.
Samarthyam is again empanelled as an 'Access Auditor' by the DEPwD vide its Office Memorandum No. B-16007/3/2023-SIPDA dated 24 Feb 2024 for a period of five years (Valid from 24 February 2024 to 23 February 2029).
Five Pillars of Samarthyam's activities:
Advocacy on Disability Rights and Diversity Inclusion;
Policy & Standards Formulation;
Capacity Building & Awareness Raising;
Promotion of Universal Accessibility & Design through Access Audits, Gap Analysis and Design Appraisals to enhance Inclusivity; and
Monitoring and Impact Evaluation Studies of Development Projects with -disability, -age and –gender lens.
