National Centre for Accessible Environments

Samarthyam’s goal is to promote the understanding and implementation of accessibility of the sustainable built, social and virtual environments, using the guiding principles of Universal Design and articles of the CRPD.

Under its Project “National Centre for Accessible Environments”, it evaluates, develops, and promotes universal accessibility in built & outdoor environments, transportation systems, information communication technology and products.

Samarthyam’s team as change agents is disseminating Accessibility Awareness and Implementation Strategies through a novel model, which primarily focuses on promoting enabling environment.

Furthermore Samarthyam undertake action oriented Research projects on Building Regulations, Right of Way, and Rapid Transit Systems, etc.

Samarthyam is catalyst in re-designing the infrastructure set up of prime tourist spots, educational institutes, Mass Rapid Transit Systems, street & pedestrian infrastructure, etc. to make them universally accessible. Samarthyam’s team has presented more than 73 papers nationally & internationally, authored several manuals, guidelines, codes and published numerous articles.
